Mega comeback in Beijing. Kalinina beat Wimbledon champion in three sets

Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina (No. 28 WTA) made a sensational start to her performance at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing (China).

In the first round, the Ukrainian lost the first set to Marketa Vondrousova (No. 8 WTA) from the Czech Republic, but managed to gain victory with a strong will.

This was the third meeting between the tennis players; previously the scores were equal. This was Vondrousova’s first match since the US Open.

This was Kalinina’s 11th match and third victory against an opponent ranked in the top 10 of the world rankings. This year it was the highest-rated victory by a Ukrainian and his sixth comeback after losing the first match.

Note that this is Angelina’s 22nd victory at the WTA level this season, this is the athlete’s personal record.

In the next round, Kalinina will fight Daria Seville (No. 248 WTA).
