Former world number two among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova appreciated the victory of Russian Veronika Kudermetova over the second number of the WTA ranking, Poland’s Iga Szwiatek, in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Tokyo.
The meeting ended with a score of 6:2, 2:6, 6:4 in favor of the Russian, this is her first career victory over former WTA ranking leader Szwiatek. As a result, Kudermetova reached the final of the tournament, where she defeated American Jessica Pegula.
— Šwiętek entered the game poorly, only by the end of the first set she gained momentum and was able to force a fight in the second. In the third game, Veronica made an early break and held her serve until the end of the match, which led her to victory.
Despite the fact that Iga is not in the best shape now and does not look like herself at all – she made 50 unforced errors and six double errors during the match – it was a worthy victory, Pivovarova told Gazeta.Ru.
For 26-year-old Kudermetova, this title at tournaments under the auspices of the WTA became the second in her career – the athlete had previously won the tournament in Charleston in April 2021.
