Former world number two among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova believes that the appearance of coach Dmitry Tursunov in the team of Russian Veronika Kudermetova helped the athlete find inspiration.
On Sunday, Kudermetova beat American Jessica Pegula in the final match of the WTA tournament in Tokyo with a score of 7:5, 6:1.
“I’m very glad that Veronica took the title and beat difficult opponents in a bitter struggle. Just look at the match against Pavlyuchenkova – this battle lasted 3.5 hours! The season was very difficult for her, she did not show the results that were expected of her. I know that she has an agreement with Dmitry Tursunov, he will train her. I doubt that they had time to work fruitfully to say that this victory was his merit. But definitely, this became some kind of inspiration for Veronica, she was able to find the right mood for the entire tournament,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Pivovarova.
For 26-year-old Kudermetova, the title at tournaments under the auspices of the WTA became the second in her career – the athlete previously won the tournament in Charleston in April 2021.
