Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Vladimir Selivanenko believes that the rivalry between Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina and Belarusian Arina Sabalenko will become one of the main confrontations on the WTA tour.
On Friday, Rybakina defeated Sabalenka in a quarter-final match at the WTA‑1000 tournament in Beijing.
“I don’t see the point of making some kind of symbolic event out of the next match between two leaders of the world classification and looking for special meaning in it. Today Lena managed to serve better, make fewer doubles, and convert more break points. There will be many more such matches, the rivalry between Arina and Lena will apparently be one of the main ones on the tour,” Vprognoze.ru quotes Selivanenko as saying.
In the semifinals of the tournament in Beijing, Rybakina will play against Russian Lyudmila Samsonova.
