Poland’s Iga Swiatek unabashedly cruised past Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova in the Beijing tournament final to win in straight sets 6-2. Swiatek thus took in his hands his fifth title of the season.
Dominant throughout the tournament, Swiatek put the finishing touches on a 1 hour 10 minute match on Sunday in the final. Swiatek lost only one round during the tournament, to France’s Caroline Garcia.
Swiatek, who won her 16th WTA Tour title, also remains perfect in three matches against Samsonova during her career. On Saturday, she became the youngest player since Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka in 2010 to reach 20 WTA finals.
Against Samsonova on Sunday, Swiatek was dominant on serve, winning 85% of her first serves. In exchange for the serve, he made four breaks of serve to advance to the title.
In the semifinal, Swiatek got the better of American Coco Gauff in straight sets.
At 24, Samsonova missed out on winning her first tournament of the season.
