Russian tennis player Anastasia Guryeva said that she is not afraid to compete in adult tournaments.
Guryeva is 18 years old; in 2023, the Russian woman won the US Open in junior doubles.
— Am I afraid to enter the pro tour? I wouldn’t say because I started playing adult tournaments a year ago. During the year she continued to perform there, but devoted more time to the junior tour. Now only the pro tour remains. There is no fear – I’m an adult, everyone there is the same, except, probably, Mirra Andreeva, but, in principle, there is nothing to be afraid of. You just do your job, try to achieve your goal.
At the moment, the majority of the WTA tour plays power tennis – this is the fashion. Serving has become much more important and the girls have become much better at putting the ball into play. A lot of time is now devoted to this in training, as it brings results. The change of rhythm is also important: I like to shorten, which not everyone does. And what helps me a lot is that I knock my opponents out of their rhythm. To achieve results, you have to work on all the little things, especially the mental part. Many coaches now say that mentality is especially important. And only then comes the equipment,” Guryeva is quoted as saying by “Championship.”
