The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal by disqualified Romanian tennis player Simona Halep against a decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the court’s press service reports.

The hearing date is currently unknown.

It is noted that in the appeal to CAS, Halep asks to overturn the decision and mitigate the punishment. The decision of the CAS will be final and binding, except for the parties’ right to appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal within 30 days on limited grounds.

In September, the ITIA announced a four-year ban for 31-year-old Halep for violating anti-doping rules. The Romanian woman was charged on two separate counts. The first involved an adverse drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to deviations in the indicators in the athlete’s biological passport. Halep had thyroid problems.

Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. She won two Grand Slam singles tournaments – the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon. In total, the Romanian has 24 titles at WTA tournaments.
