Tsitsipas: “I saw the ball like a grapefruit”
Stefanos Tsitsipas was happy with the way he competed against Goyo and reached the semi-finals.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has overcome the Goyo hurdle and will face Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of the Vienna tournament. The Greek tennis player said immediately after the match that he was happy with the way he handled the match as he put the ball where he wanted and then was able to see the ball like a grapefruit.
In detail what Stefanos Tsitsipas said: “I feel great, I showed a great fight on the pitch. YThere were times when I was behind in the rankings, but I kept fighting and never lost faith that I could come back. I finished the tiebreak well by fighting on the court and giving a lot. I convinced myself that I could do it, especially after the 3-0 defeat. I felt like I had to keep the ball low and attack whenever the ball was flat.
I can’t say much about the second sentence. We both held our serves pretty easily, I tried as best I could to make it difficult for him on his serve. And when the score was 5:5, the moment came when I came back really well, I was able to defend extremely well and I pushed him to make big throws. It was important to stay there and I could see the ball like a grapefruit at that moment.
These moments are part of the job. It wasn’t easy yesterday to come back from 1st to 4th place. Over time, these situations will make you mature and try to avoid them as much as possible. Of course it’s better when you’re 4-1 up, but the job is done and here we are: I’ve overcome another difficult hurdle against a big server with big and clean hits and I’m happy“.
