Safiullin beat world number two Alcaraz at the Masters in Paris

Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin reached the third round of the Masters series tournament in Paris.

In the second round of the competition, the Russian, ranked 45th in the ATP rankings, beat the former world number one, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. The meeting lasted 1 hour 38 minutes and ended with the victory of the Russian in two sets – 6:3, 6:4.

For Safiullin, this victory over a representative of the top 3 ATP rankings was the first in his career. Now Alcaraz is second in the list of the strongest.

In the next round of competition in Paris, Safiullin’s opponent will be compatriot Karen Khachanov.

In another match of the day, Andrei Rublev was stronger than the Japanese Yoshito Nishioka – 6:4, 6:3. The fifth world number one from Russia will meet in the next round with the winner of the match between Tommy Paul (USA) and Botik van de Zandshulp (Netherlands).
