“I heard you.” WTA president responds to tennis players’ claims
WTA President Steve Simon He responded to the tennis players’ claims regarding organizational problems at the Final Tournament held in Cancun.
For example, yesterday due to heavy rain, Arina Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina could not finish the decisive match in their group.
“First of all, it is clear that you are not happy with the decision to come to Cancun. I heard you. As I told you, this was not the place we expected and the decision to come here was based on many complex factors.
The tournament is not perfect, we understand that the conditions create challenges and the WTA of course takes responsibility for this,” Simon said.
He said the possibility of skipping one of the six compulsory Masters without sanctions will also be discussed: Doha, Dubai, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati and Wuhan.
Additionally, players will be able to withdraw from all four tournaments in this category without penalty.
Simon said the issue of minimum guaranteed earnings and childcare benefits would also be discussed.
