Tsitsipas: “I’m not kidding myself, a few details robbed me of the victory”
Stefanos Tsitsipas was eliminated in the semifinals of the Paris Masters by Grigor Dimitrov. He said he was beaten in the details but was happy with his performance in the tournament.
Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 6) battled Grigor Dimitrov for about 2.5 hours, with the Bulgarian claiming a 2-1 set win and a place in the Paris Masters final.
In his statements, the leading Greek tennis player claimed that he was satisfied with his performance, but at the same time stressed that there were a few details that prevented him from taking part in the final.
“I really liked the way I played this week and only a few details cost me the win. A few bad decisions in the tiebreak changed the balance and that’s a shame because I felt like I had a good chance of winning.”
There were two or three occasions when I attacked and I had every reason to believe that I would get to the point. I went to the net, but he made a pass that went over me and reached the line. I defended myself, there wasn’t much I could do. Then there was another: He hit an incredible straight pass shot with his forehand.
You cannot control these cases. You do your best. I had a good approach shot, but he played incredibly and took the point away from me. And at the end with the backhand, in any other situation the point would have been different, but he reacted very well. It’s the points that make the difference. Maybe it would have been different if the 6:3 had become 6:5.
I’m not kidding myself, I did well. My eyes are now on Turin, hopefully I can take this game to the ATP Finals too.”
