Tennis champions of the 2023 Pan American Games announced
The 2023 Pan American Games, including the tennis tournament, ended in Santiago, Chile.
In men’s singles, Argentinian tennis player Facundo Diaz Acosta (ATP No. 106), who was in the top 100 in the ATP world rankings at the end of August, came first. In the final, Diaz Acosta defeated Chilean Tomas Barrios in two sets.
The women’s victory was won by Brazilian Laura Pigossi (WTA No. 125), who broke into the top 100 of the WTA world rankings at the end of August. In the final match, she easily defeated Lourdes Carle from Argentina in two games.
In doubles, Brazilian tennis players won both titles. Gustavo Eide (ATP No. 202 in doubles) and Marcelo Demoliner (ATP No. 75 in doubles) defeated local tennis players Alejandro Tabilo and Tomas Barrios, group stage participants of the 2023 Davis Cup final, in three sets.
And Laura Pigossi (WTA No. 275 in doubles) paired with Luisa Stefani, the world’s 14th player in doubles, to defeat Colombia’s Fernanda Erazo and Paulina Perez in two sets.
The gold medals in mixed doubles were won by Colombian Juliana Lisarazo and Nicolás Barrientos, who beat Brazilians Luisa Stefani and Marcelo Demolinera in straight sets in the final.
