Mikhail FILIMA: “We had to build a bomb shelter in our club”
Captain of the Ukrainian national team in the Billie Jean King Cup Mikhail Philima Before the match against the Dutch team in the Billie Jean King Cup, he made statements to foreign journalists about the situation in Ukraine.
“I am not only the captain of the national team, but also the manager of a large tennis club in Ukraine. And I can explain very simply what is happening to our tennis right now. We had to have a bomb shelter built in our club to ensure the training process and organize tournaments. As soon as the air raid begins, everything stops; lessons, matches… Everyone needs to go to shelter. These are requirements. And these are not just the demands of the authorities, these are the demands of our Ukrainian present.
How often do attacks occur? Philima, there are many strikes every day in Ukraine; “In Kiev, the siren can go off several times a week, sometimes five times a day,” he said.
The match will be played on 11-12 November at SEB Arena in Vilnius, with a capacity of 2,000 spectators.
