(Seville) Italy qualified for the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup on Thursday by beating Germany, the day after a first victory against France.
The Italian Martina Trevisan (43e world) first beat the German Eva Lys (130e), then Jasmine Paolini (30e) easily dismissed Anna-Lena Friedsam (115e) 6-3, 6-2. The double to follow is now without issue.
Each match in the competition consists of two singles followed by a doubles. The first in each of the four groups advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for Saturday, before the final on Sunday.
The 2022 edition was won by Switzerland, victorious in the final over Australia.
In the other group in progress this Friday, Australia and Kazakhstan were tied after the two singles and therefore had to decide between them thanks to the doubles.
Storm Hunter (172e) brought the first point to Australia against Anna Danilina (814e) 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. But Yulia Putintseva (69e) equalized by beating Kimberley Birrell (113e) 6-9, 7-5.
