Honored tennis coach of Russia Vladimir Kamelzon believes that a victory over Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Metz will give confidence to Alexander Shevchenko.
Shevchenko, world number 63, beat third seed Khachanov (world number 15) 6:4, 6:4.
— Shevchenko’s victory over Khachanov, as I said, was unlikely. Alexander breaks forward and already becomes the fourth racket in Russia after Khachanov. Congratulations, he’s great. Surprises us. It’s a pity for Khachanov, but this victory is good. Shevchenko has a great future ahead of him. Firstly, his rating will rise with such victories. Secondly, he will gain confidence, because when he breaks into the top thirty, the work will be different,” Kamelzon told the Championship.
In the semi-finals of the tournament, 22-year-old Shevchenko’s opponent will be the Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
