Tennis player Varvara Gracheva, who changed her sports citizenship, won her debut match as part of the French national team.
She played her first match for the French national team in the group stage of the Billy Ging Cup. Her opponent, German Tatiana Maria, refused to continue the match when the score was 3:0 in her favor.
At the end of March, 23-year-old Gracheva announced her decision to change her Russian citizenship to French. In June, she was announced on the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) under the French flag.
The Moscow native has been training in Cannes since 2016 and has lived in France for seven years. Gracheva won seven titles at International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments. She is ranked 44th in the WTA rankings.
