Djokovic defeated Rune at the ATP Final Tournament and guaranteed the title of world number one at the end of the year

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic defeated Norwegian Holger Rune in a group round match of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Final Tournament.
The game ended with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 6:7 (1:7), 6:3 in favor of the Serbian. The tennis players spent 3 hours and 4 minutes on the court.
With this victory, Djokovic guaranteed the title of number one at the end of the year for a record eighth time. The last time the Serb finished the season as a leader in the rankings was in 2021, when he surpassed the achievement of American Pete Sampras, who finished the year in first place six times.
In addition, Djokovic updated his own record, becoming the oldest tennis player to finish the year in first place in the world rankings. Two years ago, the Serbian finished the season in first place at the age of 34, at the end of the current season he will be 36 years old.
Djokovic and Rune are in the Green Group of the Final Tournament. In the next match, Djokovic will meet with Italian Jannik Sinner, Rune will play a match with Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. The meetings will take place on November 14.
The 2023 ATP Finals tournament takes place in Turin from November 12 to 19. The winner could earn more than $4.8 million. Last year Djokovic became the champion of the tournament.
