Olympic champion and winner of two Grand Slam tournaments Yevgeny Kafelnikov said that Russian Daniil Medvedev is not among the main contenders for victory in the final ATP tournament in Turin.

Medvedev won two victories in the group stage of the tournament – over compatriot Andrei Rublev and German representative Alexander Zverev – and reached the semi-finals of the tournament ahead of schedule. In the third round, Medvedev will meet Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz on Friday.

— To be honest, I didn’t expect Medvedev to reach the final semi-finals so quickly. I left the group – great job! Next his opponents will be either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner. It doesn’t matter anymore. At such a high level, it doesn’t matter who hits each other. It will be very difficult for Daniel with each of them.

Is Medvedev the favorite of the tournament? I do not think so. In my opinion, there are two favorites for the title – Djokovic and Sinner. Now they look better,” Kafelnikov told the Championship.

Medvedev won the final tournament in 2020.
