Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Alexey Selivanenko considers Roman Safiullin and Pavel Kotov the most progressive Russian tennis players based on the results of 2023.
At the end of the season, Safiullin rose from 88th to 39th place in the ATP rankings, Kotov – from 117th to 67th.
— If we talk about the most noticeable progress in the season that ended, then it is necessary to mention Safiullin and Kotov. Each of them demonstrated the kind of play that brings results and gives them a reason to claim victory. Roman gained the confidence he needed so much and felt the taste of victories at the most important tournaments. So his current place in the classification at the end of the season is far from the limit; Roman certainly has more ambitious intentions. The same can be said about Pavel,” RB Sport quotes Selivanenko.
