“I’ve always prided myself on never giving up and he’s certainly in the same category,” Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt said of De Minaur. He carried the team on his shoulders and we are proud of him. He had to draw on his resources to save us. »
From Minaur, 12e in the world rankings, broke his rival’s serve while trailing 3-5 in the second set, forcing an eventual tiebreaker. He then got the key break of serve at 5-5 in the final set, before closing the books by winning his service game in four points.
“It would have been easy for me to give up my arms, but I’m not that type of person,” insisted De Minaur, who is 24 years old. I have played several matches like this during my career. It’s part of my identity. I will never give up. I will fight until the end. »
