Djokovic: “I’ve been thinking about this week with the Davis Cup team all season, it’s a big disappointment”
Novak Djokovic took responsibility for Serbia’s loss to Italy in the Davis Cup while not hiding his emotional distress during the press conference.
Novak Djokovic was visibly emotional after the end of Serbia’s Davis Cup match against Italy. Nole had made no secret of his desire to lead his country to the title, but that ultimately didn’t happen.
“Congratulations to Italy for qualifying for the final.” They deserve it. They played well, especially Yannick in singles and doubles. He lost very few balls in the entire game.
For me it is a very big disappointment. I take responsibility. I had three match points and was close to deciding the game. It’s really a shame. That’s the sport. When you lose to your country, the feeling is even more bitter.” Nole originally reported.
Then he didn’t want to justify himself: “I don’t want to talk about it because it would sound like an excuse. Obviously it’s a very difficult situation. I was trying to cheer myself up for this week. I’ve been thinking about this week with the Davis Cup team all season long. I tried to contribute. I did it in the first race, it shouldn’t have been today.”
