Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva spoke about a good understanding with German Laura Siegemund when playing in pairs.

Zvonareva, together with the German woman, won the WTA Final Tournament in Cancun in doubles, beating American Nicole Melicar-Martinez and Australian Ellen Perez in the final (6:4, 6:4). As a result of the tournament, Zvonareva earned more than 300 thousand dollars; during the season her profit reached almost a million dollars.

— It’s not always possible to find the partner on the court who will understand you the first time. Often relationships are built over several months: then you build a team. With Laura, somehow everything worked out very quickly: we began to understand each other literally after two matches. We see the game the same way, we evaluate what is happening on the court, we have a good mutual understanding of what we want to do.

We have different playing styles as a couple: I play more from behind, she plays more in front. And this makes our team so united. Because it is very important when in a pair each player knows his role, and we clearly and quickly distributed them. This allows us to win many matches. And even in those meetings that we lose at the start, we find ways to win,” Zvonareva is quoted as saying by “Championship.”

For 39-year-old Zvonareva, this title in pairs was the 16th in her career and the fourth of the season.
