Medvedev’s coach explained the reasons for the Russian’s defeat from Sinner at the final ATP tournament

Gilles Cervara, the coach of tennis player Daniil Medvedev, said that the Russian “shot himself in the foot” when he lost a game on his serve early in the third set in the semi-final match of the ATP final tournament with Italian Jannik Sinner.

The meeting took place on November 18. Medvedev lost to Sinner with a score of 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 1:6.

— It was a very intense match. Yannick has been in amazing form in recent months, one of the three or four best players in the world. But I didn’t expect him to lose the third set so easily. When you lose your serve immediately after leveling the set, you lose momentum. He shot himself in the foot again. Medvedev finished the 2023 season in third place in the ATP rankings; during the season, the 27-year-old Russian won five titles.
