Medvedev’s coach on the relationship with the tennis player: “Definitely more than just a coach and a player”

The coach of world number three Daniil Medvedev, Gilles Cervara, spoke about his special relationship with the tennis player.
– I can call our relationship with Medvedev special. Of course, I can’t say that we are like father and son. It’s hard for me to call these relationships friendly simply because a coach shouldn’t be a friend to a player. But there’s definitely more to it than just coach and player. It is very difficult to find a description for this type of relationship.
We have grown and continue to grow with each other as individuals over the years. Daniel is part of my life, and I am part of his. I know him very well. For example, when we play billiards with each other, I cannot allow him to beat me, just as he cannot imagine the option of giving me the opportunity to win.
