Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina He received the WTA Awards.
Representatives of the Women’s Tennis Organization named the Ukrainian, ranked 25th in the world, “Comeback of the Year”.
“Elina Svitolina took 12 months away from the WTA Tour to welcome her daughter Sky into the family, who was born in October 2022. Svitolina returned to duty in April 2023. Prior to her pregnancy, Svitolina had more than 200 consecutive weeks in the top 10 and won her 17th career title at the WTA 250 in Strasbourg, just a month after her long-awaited return to action.
Her comeback continued with a quarter-final at Roland Garros and then she matched her best Grand Slam performance by reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon, defeating WTA world number one Iga Swiatek in the process. “Within five months, Svitolina rose again in the WTA rankings and finished the year as if she had never left the court,” the WTA said.
Along with Elina, Marketa Vondrousova, Carolina Muchova, Xie Shuwei and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova competed for the “Comeback of the Year” award.
