WTA recognized Russian Mirra Andreeva as newcomer of the year

Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva was recognized as Rookie of the Year by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), according to the WTA website.
16-year-old Andreeva made the biggest leap in the world rankings in 2023, the athlete started the season in 405th position, and in November she became the 46th racket in the world. Also last season, Andreeva reached the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon and the third round of Roland Garros.
The WTA player of the year was the world number one, Poland’s Iga Szwiatek; the Belgian Elise Mertens and Australian Storm Hunter won the Couple of the Year category. The winner of the “Comeback of the Year” nomination was Elina Svitolina from Ukraine.
Tomasz Wiktorowski, who works with Šwiętek, was named coach of the year.
