Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk refused to play against Russian Mirra Andreeva in the final match of an exhibition tournament in Bourg-de-Page, France, the press service of the competition organizers reports.
The press release states that the reason for Kostyuk’s refusal was the “geopolitical situation.” Now she will be replaced in the final game by Frenchman Yanis Ghazouani Duran, who ranks 1145th in the ATP rankings.
Previously, 16-year-old Andreeva became the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Rookie of the Year in 2023. In the season that ended, she reached the third round of Roland Garros and also reached the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon. The Russian became the 46th racket in the world in November.
