Stefanos Tsitsipas said he was impatient for the United Cup while explaining that both he and Maria Sakkari had learned not to give up.

Greece are leaders in the second group of the United Cup, whose games will be played in Sydney along with Canada and Chile.

The Greek team begins its game on Tuesday (February 1) against Chile and faces Canada the next day.

Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his impatience to take part in the tournament on the official United Cup website, while stressing that he has learned not to give up, just like Maria Sakkari.

“Every year I am really happy to represent my country at such big tournaments. It is a great honor and means more than anything. In 2023 we had a great opportunity and a great chance to even reach the final and have a chance to win the title.

It was the first time that I had the feeling that Greece was really united in terms of play and was pursuing this goal without hesitation and without any doubt that we can really achieve it.

I felt like we were so confident on the pitch. We knew that if we put the right pieces together the puzzle could be completed and we were very close, we were extremely close in 2023. I feel like we have completed 80% of the work.

Maria and I refuse to give up. We both fight relentlessly and try to use every weapon we have. I feel like Maria is a pretty complete player who can play anytime, anywhere on the court and that helps me a lot as a man to play mixed doubles with her sometimes.

It’s a lot of fun to play with a fighter like Maria… Even on the worst days she doesn’t let it get her down and we always tend to find ways.

I had a lot of fun traveling around Australia and seeing Greeks in stadiums everywhere. I feel great in Australia. This year in Sydney I had probably the best Greek support I have ever experienced at a tournament in my life.

During my game against Italy there was an incredible atmosphere that gave me unforgettable, intense memories that will stay with me. It was an absolute pleasure.
