Vesnina admitted that Wozniacki inspired her to return to tour

Olympic champion in doubles Elena Vesnina told who she consulted with and who she was inspired by when deciding to resume her career.

On Thursday, 37-year-old Vesnina announced the resumption of her playing career. In May 2023, the tennis player gave birth to her second daughter.

— You know, when I returned for the first time in 2021, it was difficult in terms of the fact that it was a pandemic, coronavirus. I was traveling with my child then, with Lisa, and I even had some feeling of guilt, because traveling was very difficult. Constant PCR tests, restrictions, did not let us out of the hotel. Only then did some easing begin and we were able to at least go outside somewhere – walk in parks, see some sights. At first it was very difficult with these restrictions. Now there are other difficulties – in terms of the fact that it is more difficult to fly out of Moscow and get somewhere. Because you need to choose a route with a stop in Istanbul or Belgrade, somewhere else. Fortunately, there are flights Moscow – Doha and Moscow – Dubai. At least you can get there by direct flight. Now I didn’t consult with any of the players, but I was always in touch with Veronichka Kudermetova, and with Nastya Pavlyuchenkova, and with Lyuda Samsonova, with all our girls. We communicate with all of them – I follow their results, their successes, I am very happy how they have improved. And I thought it would be beautiful to play like this with two children.

By the way, Caroline Wozniacki also inspired me. I can say that. We are also in touch with Caroline – she is smart. True, she first gave birth to two children, and then returned (laughs). We are athletes. It’s in our blood to be in shape, to be in a good, positive mood. And I think that children will only help us with this. Of course, it won’t be that easy. Vesnina won gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in doubles, and also became a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics in mixed doubles.

The athlete gave birth to her first daughter in November 2018.
