The first round qualifying match of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane (Australia) between the former third racket of the world, Austrian Dominic Thiem, and Australian Jack McCabe was interrupted due to a poisonous snake crawling onto the court, The Guardian reports.
According to the publication, the referee suspended the match in the second set when spectators noticed a snake on the court. Security personnel and a snake catcher were involved in solving the problem and managed to catch the reptile, a 50-centimeter eastern brown snake. It is considered the second most poisonous among land snakes.
After the snake was caught and removed from the court, the game resumed and ended with Tim winning with a score of 2:6, 7:6 (7:4), 6:4. The Austrian will play in the qualifying final.
The main draw matches of the tournament in Brisbane will be held from December 31 to January 7.
