Nadal defeated Thiem in his first singles match since returning to the court; the Spaniard has not played since the 2023 Australian Open

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal reached the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane, Australia.
In the first round, Nadal defeated Austrian Dominic Thiem. The meeting lasted 1 hour 30 minutes and ended with a score of 7:5, 6:1.
Nadal, 37, played his first singles match in almost a year. The Spaniard played his last singles match at the Australian Open 2023 on January 18. Nadal missed almost the entire last season due to injury. In their first match since returning on December 31, Nadal and compatriot Marc Lopez lost to Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the first round of the Brisbane doubles tournament.
In the next round, the former world number one from Spain will play against the winner of the match Aslan Karatsev (Russia, 8) – Jason Kubler (Australia, WC).
