Honored Russian tennis coach Viktor Yanchuk spoke about Andrei Rublevan’s victory at the Hong Kong tournament, calling it a good sign ahead of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open, which will be held from January 14 to 28 in Melbourne.
Rublev won the ATP tournament held in Hong Kong, this title became the 15th in his career in singles, thanks to which he caught up with Marat Safin and is second only to Daniil Medvedev (20), Nikolai Davydenko (21) and Yevgeny Kafelnikov among Russians.
— That Rublev won is a good sign. He is in good shape. Perhaps he will have an advantage over other tennis players who have not had time to get in shape. This will be the first significant tournament, and its title is an application for a successful performance,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Yanchuk.
At AO‑2024, Rublev is seeded fifth and will meet in the first round with Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wilde. The Russian’s best result at the Australian Open was reaching the quarterfinals in 2021 and 2023.
