Honored tennis coach of Russia Viktor Yanchuk appreciated Andrei Rublev’s victory over Brazilian Thiago Wilde in the first round of the Australian Open.

Rublev, the fifth seed, beat world No. 78 Wild on Sunday with a score of 7:5, 6:4, 3:6, 4:6, 7:6 (10:6). In the tiebreaker the Russian lost 1:4 and 2:5.

— The first round, the first meeting at such a major tournament as the Australian Open, is not indicative. Rublev, naturally, was confident of victory over Wild. But there was no proper form or attitude. Andrey still has to acquire this as the tournament progresses, increasing his potential from round to round. Rublev must play more and more confidently. I think it will be so. The attitude is very important: he knew that he would win, and played cautiously, not at his peak. The mood was not the best,” Yanchuk was quoted as saying by “Championship.”

In the next match, Rublev will play with the winner of the confrontation between Christopher Eubanks (USA) and Taro Daniel (Japan).
