In matches with equal opponents, Daniil Medvedev “puts the squeeze” on them thanks to his psychology, said two-time winner of the Grand Slam tournaments in mixed doubles Andrei Olkhovsky.
On Wednesday, Medvedev defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 6:3, 5:7, 6:4. The meeting lasted 3 hours 59 minutes.
– Medvedev once again did not play the match very smoothly. He had unsuccessful rallies, games, several double faults, but the main thing is that Daniil puts the finishing touches on his opponents – primarily thanks to his psychology. Both tennis players were equal today, but at the decisive moment Danya played more confidently, Olkhovsky told RT.
In the next match at the Australian Open, the Russian will play against the winner of the meeting between Alexander Zverev (Germany, 6th seed) and Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, 2nd).
