“I don’t see anything sad” – Olkhovsky about Rublev’s 10th defeat in the TBS quarterfinals

Two-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments in mixed doubles Andrei Olkhovsky said that he does not see anything wrong with the defeat of Russian Andrei Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open by Italian Jannik Sinner.

Rublev, who received the fifth seed, lost to the Italian Sinner in the quarter finals with a score of 4:6, 6:7 (5:7), 3:6. The meeting lasted 2 hours 39 minutes. The Russian has never reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament, and for 26-year-old Rublev this is his 10th defeat at the quarterfinal stage.

“For some it’s sad, but for others, getting to the quarterfinals is a lifelong dream. I don’t see anything sad here, because there is a game. It’s just that Andrey’s opponents at this stage are always very strong – anything can happen here. Unfortunately, so far it looks like Rublev is losing. But he loses to one of the best. There is nothing wrong with 10 defeats. We must strive further,” Olkhovsky is quoted as saying by the Championship.

Sinner will compete with Serbian Novak Djokovic for reaching the final of the Australian Open.
