Former world number two junior Anastasia Pivovarova, in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru, shared her expectations from the Australian Open semi-final match between Daniil Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev.

On Wednesday, Medvedev defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 6:3, 5:7, 6:4. The meeting lasted 3 hours 59 minutes. Following the results of the game, the Russian tennis player said that already at the end of the second set he was seriously tired, and in the fourth he lost concentration. Later, his opponent was determined – Zverev beat the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in 3 hours and 4 minutes.

– I believe that Medvedev is of a higher level than Zverev, so he will have an advantage. Zverev does not have a very strong second serve, and Daniil can use this. Medvedev also has a more stable game on the back line. But everything will depend on your physical condition. Now even the slightest weakness can decide the outcome of the match, because physically playing against top players is very difficult. They are resilient, fast, and have a very high concentration, so you can’t allow yourself big failures in the game.

But if with Carlos Alcaraz it would be necessary to play with maximum concentration, then with Zverev it will be easier for Medvedev to build his plays. Carlos knows how to set a fast rhythm, act in a variety of ways and change the trajectory of the ball, which creates difficulties for the opponent – his rhythm is lost. Alcaraz also plays very consistently. Therefore, it is better for Medvedev that Zverev will play against him in the semifinals,” Pivovarova said.
