Mikhail Youzhny’s former coach Boris Sobkin called Russian Daniil Medvedev a hero for his performance at the Australian Open this season.
Medvedev on Sunday lost to Italian Jannik Sinner in the final of the tournament with a score of 6:3, 6:3, 4:6, 4:6, 3:6. The Russian played four five-set matches during the Australian Open 2024.
“Perhaps I’ll say a paradoxical thing now, but sometimes solutions that seem ingenious at first glance are a consequence of the lack of other options. Medvedev had no choice, he gave so much effort on the way to this final. He could not play long, exhausting rallies and made the right decision for himself for this match.
– Can we now support him by saying that he gave his all at this Australian Open?
– We have to do this. I will definitely write to him and support him, but experience tells me that this will not make him feel any better now. In general, Medvedev is a hero,” Sobkin told RT.
