Former world number two among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova said that 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva missed her chance at the last Australian Open; she could have reached the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Andreeva reached the fourth round of the tournament, where she lost to Czech Barbora Krejcikova in three sets with a score of 6:4, 3:6, 2:6.

— To be honest, I expected Mirra to win this match, because the Czech tennis player was clearly out of shape, or she was worried about an injury. The way Krejcikova played at this tournament was far from her best form. And against Mirra, she also played completely different tennis. I went to the net and even there I made mistakes on simple balls and made a huge number of unforced errors.

Mirra definitely should have won this match. But, apparently, she herself was tired, because her game was unstable. However, I think she missed a very big chance. Probably, Mirra was not yet mentally ready to overcome this stage,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Pivovarova as saying.

Andreeva is ranked 35th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
