Former coach of Mikhail Youzhny Boris Sobkin reacted to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s entry into the second round of the WTA 1000 tennis tournament in Dubai.
On Monday, the Russian woman beat Czech Maria Bouzkova in about an hour and a half with a score of 6:4, 6:3 and today she will meet with compatriot Lyudmila Samsonova (12th seeded).
— Nastya is a very high-class athlete, and indeed injuries are a very serious thing that can unsettle you. But, as they said back in Soviet times, skill is not money, you can’t drink it away. The class always remains, but returning to your previous level is not always easy. Pavlyuchenkova is a great girl for doing this.
— Are you surprised by her latest results at tournaments?
– There is no surprise in this for me. Nadal also had injuries, and look what he shows even now,” Sobkin told RT.
The prize fund for the tournament in Dubai is more than $3.2 million.
