Spanish tennis player Aaron Cortes has been disqualified for 15 years for participating in match fixing, according to the website of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
In a statement, the organization said Cortez’s punishment related to “rigging competition results, failing to report corrupt practices, accepting money for rigging competition results, providing money to tournament officials in exchange for wild cards and tennis bets.”
Cortez, 29, fully cooperated with the ITIA investigation and accepted his punishment by waiving his right to a review by an independent anti-corruption hearing officer. The player’s period of disqualification starts on March 27, 2024 and ends on March 26, 2039.
Cortez’s best achievement in the ATP world rankings in singles was 955th place in September 2017.
