The world’s fifth-ranked Russian Daniil Medvedev failed to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament in Halle.
Medvedev, seeded third, lost to China’s Zhang Zhizhen in the second round with a score of 3:6, 6:2, 6:7 (5:7). The match lasted just over two hours.
Zhang Zhizhen’s next opponent will be American Christopher Eubanks.
