Former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov said he was shocked by the defeat of Russian Andrey Rublev in the first round of Wimbledon.

On Tuesday, Rublev lost to the world’s 122nd-ranked player, Francisco Comesana of Argentina, 4-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7) in the first round of Wimbledon. In the third set, after losing two serves, the Russian hit himself hard on the knee with his racket several times, causing it to bleed.

– Rublev lost? What?! I didn’t watch the match, you surprised me with this result, it just shocks me.

If Andrey loses to a South American on grass, then it’s hard for me to say what he should do next. Something needs to be changed – maybe the coach, maybe the manager, Kafelnikov told RB Sport.

Rublev, 26, has 16 ATP singles titles to his name.
