British tennis player Andy Murray will play only in doubles at the Paris Olympics, the press service of the Lawn Tennis Association of Great Britain (LTA) reported.

“I have decided to withdraw from singles to concentrate on my doubles with Daniel Evans. We are training well and playing well together,” LTA quotes Murray as saying.

Murray previously announced that he would end his professional career after the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The 37-year-old Briton is currently ranked 121st in the world, and has spent 41 weeks as the world number one tennis player. He has won three Grand Slam tournaments – Wimbledon (2013, 2016) and the US Open (2012). Murray is the only two-time Olympic champion in men’s singles (2012, 2016), and also has Olympic silver in mixed doubles. He also won the Davis Cup as part of the Great Britain team (2015).

The Games in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11. Tennis competitions on clay courts will be held from July 27 to August 4.
