Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic proved in a match against Spaniard Rafael Nadal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris that he is the strongest player in the world, said the President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev.
On Monday, Djokovic advanced to the 1/8 finals of the Olympic tournament, beating Nadal 6-1, 6-4. In the second set, Nadal was losing 0-4, but managed to come back — 4-4. The match was the 60th in the history of the confrontation between the two tennis players, the score was 31-29 in favor of Djokovic.
— Djokovic and Nadal met. Before that, the score of personal meetings was in favor of the Serb — 30-29. Novak proved that he is the number one racket in the world. He also has a positive balance against Federer — 27-23. Novak is first, as well as by the number of days in first place in the ranking. Yesterday, he simply confirmed his status. The only thing he lacks is Olympic gold. He has only won bronze. Quality and technical and tactical considerations, as well as the ability to play all over the opponent’s court, remain the Serb’s trump cards. Due to this, he convincingly outplayed Nadal in yesterday’s match, — Tarpishchev told Sovetsky Sport.
Djokovic’s next opponent at the Games will be Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.
