The President of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev, called the behavior of American Cori Gauff, who criticized the refereeing during the third round of the 2024 Olympic Games, ridiculous.

The American failed to reach the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In the third round, she lost to Croatian Donna Vekic with a score of 6:7 (7:9), 2:6.

At one point in the match, Gauff returned her opponent’s serve, and Vekic’s return hit landed near the baseline. The linesman initially called a miss by Vekic, so Gauff did not leave the ball in play. The head referee on the platform, Jaume Campistol, decided that Vekic’s hit was in play and awarded her a point. Gauff was ultimately unhappy with the head referee’s work and criticized his work.

— It looks funny! Ball marks remain in the sand. Besides, we have a video replay system — “hawk’s eye”. Such disputes look quite funny. The scandal is rather caused by the emotional component. In the first set, the tie-break was not going well for the American, after which the psychological advantage turned out to be on the side of Vekic. It was necessary to knock this confidence down. And the disputes only worsened the American’s situation. The Croatian played very well, — Tarpishchev told Sovetsky Sport.

Earlier, the American tennis player criticized the living conditions in the Olympic village in Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in France from July 26 to August 11.
