Rublev assesses his decision to skip the Olympics to prepare for the Montreal Masters
Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev believes he made the right decision to skip the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris to better prepare for the competition in Canada.
Earlier, Rublev beat Italian Matteo Arnaldi (6:4, 6:2) and reached the final of the Masters tournament in Montreal. The Russian’s opponent in the decisive match will be Australian Alexei Popyrin. Rublev refused to participate in the Olympic tournament.
“It was worth the wait, I’m happy to be competing in my first final in Canada. I just want to recover, have a good rest and be ready for tomorrow.” The idea [не поехать на Олимпийские игры] was to come to the tournament in Canada better prepared, and since I made it to the final, it means that we made a very good decision,” Rublev’s words are quoted as saying by the official website of the Association of Tennis Professionals.
The tennis competitions at the Paris Olympics ended on August 4. The tournament in Montreal started on August 6.
