Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev made a good start to his performance at the US Open, despite the fact that his opponent, Serbian Dusan Lajovic, created a lot of inconvenience in the first round of the tournament, said former world number three Nadezhda Petrova.

In the first round of the US Open, Medvedev beat Lajovic 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 6:1.

— I think Daniil has long forgotten about his defeats at the Masters, he understands why everything happened this way, and is absolutely ready to play in New York now. I am sure that he is hungry for a good result, will strive for it and do everything possible. In the first match, Daniil had a very difficult opponent — a very experienced Serb, a tenacious, well-moving athlete. The first two sets were very interesting, they had many long rallies, and in the end, Daniil, who is a level higher than his opponent, more or less confidently finished the match in his favor.

I think this is a good start for him: it is good that there was a fight here, that the opponent was clinging, creating a lot of inconvenience. Dania has gone through this and with each round, I think, he will improve in his game, confidence will appear. Maybe the losses at the Masters will play into his hands, and he will be fresher than other tennis players already in the second week, – Petrova told Sovetsky Sport.

In the second round, Medvedev will play against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan.
