WADA has filed an appeal with CAS in the case of Jannik Sinner, the agency demands that the world number one be suspended for a period of 1-2 years

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on its website that on September 26 it filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner.

In August, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that world number one Sinner had returned two positive doping tests in March. The athlete avoided disqualification because he proved that the prohibited substance clostebol entered his body by accident.

— In WADA’s opinion, the finding of “no fault or negligence” was not correct under the applicable rules. WADA requires a suspension of one to two years. WADA is not seeking to annul any results other than those already rendered by the trial court, the agency said in a statement.

Sinner has been ranked first in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings since June. The 23-year-old tennis player won 16 tournaments under the auspices of the organization, including two Grand Slam tournaments – the Australian Open and US Open. Sinner won the Davis Cup in 2023 with the Italian national team.
