Medvedev failed to overcome the curse of Paris. Epic failure of a Russian at a cool tournament

For three years in a row, Danya has not been able to win at least one match at the Masters series tournament in the capital of France.

Before the start of the Masters series tournament in Paris, some experts predicted success for Daniil Medvedev. The Russian usually performs well on hard, so such optimism was understandable. But it seems that the French capital somehow has a bad influence on the tennis player, because here he cannot win a single match since 2021! So once again Danya faced failure.

The Russian managed to lose to an opponent to whom he had never lost before. Just some enchanted place…

Encouraging moments

The Masters tennis tournament in Paris is not very pleasing to Russian fans yet. Only Karen Khachanov, who started in the first round, managed to win at least one match. Andrei Rublev and Medvedev had the opportunity to enter the fight from the second round, but in the end both immediately stumbled.

Medvedev appeared on the court on Wednesday, October 30, and received Australian representative Alexei Popyrin as his opponent. In the world rankings, the Russian’s opponent occupies 24th position, and Daniil is in fifth place. In personal matches, our tennis player also had an unconditional advantage: three victories, two of which were won on hard court. The only unpleasant moment is that the “Masters” in Paris somehow stopped working for Dana, but any unpleasant series must end someday!

Daniil’s good start to the match made it possible to be optimistic about the tennis player’s prospects, if not in the tournament as a whole, then at least in a specific match. Medvedev quickly won a break point and was winning 3-1 after the fourth game. But then something strange happened. Popyrin took three games in a row to zero and already gained an advantage in the game. The Russian made too many mistakes, especially on his serve. The result of the opening set was disappointing for Medvedev – 4:6.

Fatal error

In the second set, there was a feeling that trouble with an abundance of mistakes had overtaken the Australian. Popyrin seemed to move better and attack more dangerously, but failures literally followed him. Double errors on serve, inaccurate shots, hitting the net and out – all this fell on Alexey in a single game. As a result, Medvedev corrected the situation, defeating his opponent with a score of 6:2.

The decisive set turned out to be uneven, each of the participants in the match had every chance to take the game in their favor. At first, Popyrin gained an advantage, leading 4:1. Finding himself a couple of steps away from failure, Medvedev returned, equalized, then acted confidently on his own serves and even came close to taking a point on his opponent’s serve.

In the tiebreaker, Daniil tried not to miss the chance, but another double fault on serve turned out to be fatal. At the decisive moment of the match, you simply cannot act like that! In the next play, Alexey played great at the net and put an end to the confrontation. Now Popyrin has his first victory over the titled Russian. Medvedev had nothing to brag about: a vague game with an abundance of mistakes was not at all conducive to finally breaking the spell in Paris. Another year at the local Masters series tournament ended for our tennis player without victories.
