Medvedev defeated an outsider. Failure in Miami will cost a Russian expensive
The Russian tennis player accused the balls of everything.
An unexpected result on Masters in Miami: the eighth racket of the world Daniil Medvedev lost to the 56th place of Hauma Munara with a score of 2: 6, 3: 6. This victory became for the Spaniard the third in his career over rivals from the top 10. Munar did not beat tennis players for the first tens since 2022.
Medvedev complaints and the loss of the first set in 34 minutes
The first set of the match between Daniil Medvedev and Hauma Munar began with the filing of the Spaniard. However, the start was unsuccessful for the Russian: he lost the first game at the reception, and then, despite the played backwoods, lost the filing and allowed Munar to lead 4: 2. During the game, the supervisor and the doctor approached Medvedev, but he refused medical care. Later it turned out that the supervisor listened to Medvedev’s complaints about the balls.
– Who allows this? It is impossible to play tennis. Who says: “Yes, we can play these balls”? Nobody, huh?
– The balls are approved by the tour.
“They are not good enough.”
As a result, in 34 minutes, the Russian lost a set 2: 6. The statistics of the first batch turned out to be disappointing for Medvedev: three Winner and 16 undelivered errors for eight games. At the same time, Munar showed a more stable game with indicators of 9: 7.
Emotional breakdown of Medvedev and departure from the tournament
In the second set, Medvedev continued to fight, but made several mistakes that allowed Munar to lead 3: 1. The Russian emotions got out of control: for a twice abandoned racket, he received a warning, and then a penalty point, which helped the Spaniard strengthen the leadership-4: 1. Despite Medvedev’s attempts to recoup, including the salvation of the double Break Punt in the sixth game, Munar retained the advantage. In the eighth game, the Russian played the matchball, but already in the next one missed the chances of the break and lost the match.
Munar won with a score of 6: 2, 6: 3 in 1 hour 18 minutes. Medvedev, despite some bright points, made too many mistakes, which did not allow him to turn the course of the match. The Spaniard showed a stable game and confidently completed the meeting in his favor. In the third circle, he will play with the Frenchman Gael Monfis.
The emotions of the rival Medvedev
After a loud sensation, Munar noted that the victory over Daniel is very important for him.
– It means a lot. I feel great after all the work done. I am very comfortable here, and this year I play well on hard courts. In the end it was a little tense, but in the end I was pleased with the performance. I changed a lot: technology, tactics. I think that I need to continue to improve, ”the ATP website quotes the words of Munar.
Rublev – the first racket of Russia
Medvedev’s defeat will lead to a change of leader among Russian tennis players. Now they will be Andrei Rublev. According to the results of the Medvedev tournament, at least 10th place in the ATP ranking will drop, and Rublev will be at least the eighth position. Thus, Andrei will be the first racket of Russia for the first time since February 2023.
The Masters tournament in Miami will end on March 30, and Medvedev will now focus on preparing for the European ground season, where he will try to regain stability and confidence in the game.
